Dog Leads Deputies To Alleged Burglars
Three woman eluded Broome County sheriff’s deputies late Thursday after a Burglary in the Town of Chenango. But they could not escape a police dog.
The dog, Kobi, and his handler, Daniel Wilcox, were called to the White Street home after three people fled before the first Broome County Sheriff’s Office car arrived. Deputies, who responded to a call of a burglary in progress, saw the front door had been forced open.
A witness told deputies there were at least three people on the front porch just before their arrival.
Kobi tracked the trio across several lawns and a field before he stopped at the base of an apple tree. When deputies cleared away the tree branches, they found the woman who were apprehended without incident.
Charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespass, both misdemeanors, were;
- Carol Anne Shannon, 21, of Glenwood Road, Binghamton.
- Katie Ann Williams, 19, of Chenango Avenue, Binghamton.
- An unnamed 18-year-old Town of Chenango resident.
The three were issued appearance tickets for Town of Chenango Court on July 24
Dog Aids Police In Burglary Arrest
A Broome County Sheriff’s Office dog helped sniff out two men who were charged in the Thursday morning burglary of a Watson Boulevard restaurant and Oak Hill Avenue restaurant.
Village police charged James M. Surowka, 28, of Glenwood Avenue, Binghamton; and Joshua A. Sutton, 17, of Squires Avenue, Endicott with third-degree burglary, a felony.
Surowka and Sutton stole about $90, a bank bag with check books and records from Gances’ Restaurant at Watson Blvd., and a cash register from Oak Inn Restaurant on Oak Hill Ave., Endicott Police said. The incident was reported around 2:40 a.m.
Broome County sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Wilcox and his dog, Kobi, were called to the scene. Kobi lead Wilcox for several blocks through the neighborhood and a park to a garage on Bermond Avenue, where Surowka and Sutton were found hiding.
Police said they recovered about $40.
Surowka and Sutton were sent to Broome County Jail without bail.
