Niagara Regional Police K-9 Tracks MVA Suspect

In the early morning hours of November 14, 2006 a member of the public came across a single motor vehicle collision in the 19th St. area of the Town of Lincoln. After checking on the occupants the witness called police at which time the driver of the other vehicle fled on foot into a vineyard.
Uniform Officers from 8 District responded to the scene, and with the assistance of the Niagara Regional Police K9 Unit a lengthy track was conducted through the vineyard and into backyards in a neighbouring residential area. The suspect was eventually found hiding in the backyard shed of a house on 7th Avenue Lincoln. The suspect was taken into custody and a search was conducted revealing a quantity of suspected marijuana. Additionally, a search of the suspects vehicle revealed 58 individual packages of suspected cocaine as well as a larger package of the same substance.
The suspect was transported to the St. Catharines General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries he received as a result of the collision. The suspect, identified as Andrew David EGAN 21 years of age from St. Catharines has been charged with Dangerous Driving, Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Narcotics, and Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking.
EGAN was released from custody on a Promise to Appear, Officer in Charge Undertaking with a court date of December 22 2006.
