Sheriff K-9 Locates Three Marijuana Fields

Deputy Wilcox and K-9 Kobi

A Port Crane man accused of growing marijuana in Chenango Valley State Park has now been charged with unlawful growing of cannabis in addition to criminal possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors.

Douglas E. Greiner, 29, of Route 369, Virginia City Trailer Park , was charged after Broome County Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Wilcox and his dog Kobi were investigating a suspicious-person complaint.  Kobi tracked Greiner to a field where Greiner was found to be in possession of a knapsack with marijuana in it.  Kobi then located three fields planted with marijuana.
Greiner has been ordered to appear at 9 a.m. Dec. 2 in Town of Fenton Court to answer the charges.
The deputy and dog recovered shoe boxes with marijuana plant leaves and buds from the trunk of Greiner's car and at other nearby locations, Wilcox reported.
Approximately 25 grams of dried marijuana was confiscated and the amount could be more when wet plant leaves are dried, Wilcox said.
Greiner had harvested two of three fields planted with marijuana when apprehended Friday, Wilcox said.
